Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
