Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The track blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a representative commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the region was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
