The British player advanced to round three in three out of four major tournaments during the season.

The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions in 2025 as a result of the illness that has affected her in recent days.

At 22 years old was scheduled to compete in events in Asia but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate ahead of launching next year's training.

Those preparations will include trainer Francisco Roig, as they have agreed to work together again next season.

The tennis professional required blood pressure checks in her opening round with Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

She needed once more medical attention at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the first round.

She was also playing noticeably restricted in the final set versus Zhu owing to back discomfort that has been a concern during parts of the season.

Those results signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally after more than three years since her previous ranking, finished with a trio of defeats.

Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in last month's Beijing event.

Raducanu won 28 victories during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in the Washington tournament, but the highlight of her season was at March's Miami Open.

As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed during the tournament before losing in a three-set match to fourth-ranked Pegula.

She worked with Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.

The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions late this year.

The athlete revealed that the trial session with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati during August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she made the third stage prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
