A extended journey circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The liner departed without her and came back several hours later after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

A major hunt located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, together with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and staff on the ship were told that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

The vessel initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to participate in the expedition - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the choice of walking or underwater exploration.

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and distressed that the ship left the island after an organised outing without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking group.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a extremely warm day, and she took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the boat sailed away, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, she died, without company."

Operator Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive verified that the company was "cooperating fully with investigators to aid their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the family.

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to company details. It was specially constructed to reach isolated regions of Australia's coastline and is equipped with "tenders" - small boats used to transport travelers on day excursions.
