Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
