The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
