The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
